The Adirondack Mountains are a massif of mountains in Northeastern New York which form a circular dome approximately 160 miles wide and covering about 5,000 square miles. The region contains more than 100 peaks, including Mount Marcy, which is the highest point in New York at 5,344 feet.
The Adirondack Forty-Sixers, Inc. is a membership organization that recognizes those who have climbed the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York State with an elevation of 4,000 feet or higher. Click here to discover more about the High Peaks!
There are so many things so do in the Adirondack Park! From flat trail walks along scenic rivers to intensive hikes that lead to jaw-dropping views, there is something for everyone. Thoughout the year, the Adirondacks are host to a wide variety of athletic events, including an IronMan race, which takes place each year in late July.
Throughout this project, I have made incredible leaps in my HTML and CSS coding abilities, creating things that would have seemed impossible a few short weeks ago. I learned how to change my text formatting, adjusting line spacing, fonts, and colors to create a more visually appealing product. I am especially proud of some of the small details I incorporated into this project. From the links having a different hover color, to my images properly adjusting their size, and the spacing of my titles. It was a small change, but I also appreciated the visual effect of softening the corners of my text boxes. I also incorporated something I learned how to build in Free Code Camp, the heart found on the bottom of page 3.
While I had many successes in this project, I also faced a variety of challenges. From ridiculously sized images, to not realizing I should only be using one CSS sheet at the beginning, this website was definetly created through a process of trial and error. Spacing also posed a challenge, as I tried to make it look generally uniform and neat, but some things seemed to be way too close together for no apparent reason. The discovery of the line-height tag was especially revolutionary for me. When I changed the background of the whole page to a light cream color, the color seemingly stopped for no reason above my top text box and below my bottom one. I solved this by adding 5px of padding to the top and bottom of the body element.
After completing this project I definetly have some new things I'd like to learn. Firstly, while I did my best to neatly organize my code, I feel it could use some work or somehow be more condensed, especially my CSS. I'd really like to be able to split a section so that I could have an image besides text. It's a bit ambitious but I want to learn to layer an image, text, and a gradient so that I could have a more organic feel to my design.
