Hello and welcome to my (kinda) first official blog post! With ten days to go until I leave, I figured this was a great time to start up this blog. Since I’m planning to delete social media while I’m away, regularly posting to this blog is an important goal of mine.
If you’re interested in keeping up-to-date with when I post, check out the Connect tab! All you’ll receive is a simple post notification email whenever I write a new entry. Another short blog-page orientation bit is that only a couple recent posts will appear on the home page, if for some reason you wanted to take a peek back, check out the Journal tab for all posts. Finally, I’ll try to incorporate photos into my posts, but mostly they will live under the Gallery tab. At the time of posting this, they’re just generic photos of Valencia until I get some of my own!
Now, on to the true update!
A lot of emotions have appeared as my departure day gets closer, and as the trip has felt more real. Excitement and positive things are at the forefront. The possibility of change on a very grand and radical scale is something that I embrace wholeheartedly. This change and my departure doesn’t come without its nerves, though. I’d be a liar if I didn’t mention that it is also intimidating to leave the people and places I love for four months as I embark on this journey. This being said, I retain a confidence that going on this study abroad is the right choice, and so much excitement that it practically threatens to consume me at moments.
With 10 days remaining, I’ve also begun to more formally prep for departure. Yesterday my sister Katie and I created a draft packing list, and I got my massive suitcase. No actual packing has been attempted yet, but that will hopefully change tomorrow! For Christmas I received some of the necessities for my trip, like an adapter for my chargers, and a new backpack for all the smaller trips so that I’m not hauling my massive suitcase around. On the less formal side of preparations, I’ve been making an effort to listen to some more Spanish artists. The musician iñigo quintero was recommended to me by Anna Rose, my roommate for Valencia, and I’ve really enjoyed his music. A while back I found guitarricadelafuente, who is a pretty big artist from Spain. I’ll add a favorite song of his below! I’ll also add a song from a more recent discovery- the girl band shego! They are also Spain-based, and are doing a show while I’m in Valencia so I really hope I get to see them!
That’s all for now, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Caroline
